Upwards Basketball

Hey everybody, this is Greg. I haven't written for a while, but check this action out. The band I'm in played our biggest gig yet today at the Warsaw High School Gym. It was kind of a last minute gig (we got contacted on Monday) but we said we would do it. It was a lot of fun. We were playing for 800 kids and their families for a Christian basketball organization called Upwards. It was their awards program and it was pretty eventful. We were asked to play "rocky" music. I think we did alright. The guys in charge said that if the mother's don't come up and complain that it's too loud, then we aren't playing hard enough. Here are some pictures of the event.

Set up and sound check took awhile.

My view.

Nate and Becky's view.

We were waiting to do another sound check in this picture. We had to wait for awhile.

Can you believe over 3000 people showed up? I think it beat the record number of people I've played in front of by 2900. Pretty cool. The gym was over half full and we were told it holds 6000. There were people standing on the sides because the bleachers were full.

Natalie took this picture from where she was watching the show. We were done at this point. She helped with selling our merchendise. Jett also went along. He was dancing to our music during the sound check, but when I looked up at him while we were playing in front of the crowd he was sleeping in Natalie's arms. Sure, this kid wakes up at home when you tip-toe and barley make a noise during naptime, but when there is a rockin' concert going on he can sleep right through it!

This is what we do with Jett when Natalie is helping sell stuff. She puts him in a box and makes him play with his shoes. Natalie calls the box "the babysitter." Harsh, I know, but the kid loves it. Heck, if I could play in a really big box with my shoes then I would, too!

This gig was a lot of fun and we actually played very well for being in a huge steel structure. We were told it sounded very good. Well, I guess everyone didn't say it sounded good because one lady did come up to our sound guy, Luke, and tell him "this volume needs to come way down." Two words I have to say about that comment: Mission Complete.
