I have a meal that will haunt me and make me laugh for the rest of my life...it's been over 8 years since it happened and I still find myself thinking about it. Every time I make it now, it brings back bitter-sweet memories and gives Greg and I a good chuckle.
...I continue...
So after Greg and I got married his mom became very sick and by the time we got home from our honeymoon she was in the hospital and was there until she passed away a month later. So during our first month of marriage, every night, we headed up to South Bend to spend the evening with her after work. After a few weeks I had a little meltdown because we had not spent an evening at home together since we had been married...and I had never made him a meal being his wife. So one night we decided to just stay home together.

long story short! gees...anyway, I decided to make potato soup. My excitement over my first meal quickly came to a halting stop as I was mixing the ingredients, it just didn't look right and my spoon about broke as I mixed. Wish I were exaggerating:( Never making it before I thought, huh, just must be a thick soup. My poor, sweet, trying to please his new bride, husband, took the first bite to see how it tasted. The look of horror on his face will be forever burned into my mind. It was bad. I mean bad. The recipe called for 2 Tablespoons of flour and I put in 2 CUPS of flour. It was like Spackle you would use when fixing holes in your walls. Greg always jokes that he gave our dog Samson a bite and then he (Sam) started licking his butt to get the horrible taste out of his mouth. He - of course - smartly started this joke years later...

I cried for about half an hour. And then it got worse. I also made biscuits. So Greg said "Honey, we can just eat the biscuits." Well, I had been crying so hard and so long that I forgot about the biscuits...and burnt them! So after all of that, we ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for our first dinner as a married couple.

hahah! I bet that did taste interesting:) well, you have mastered the cooking and are wonderful at it!
Well I probably better not share this but . . . Sunday lunches are so crazy so I decided to make lunch ahead of time on Saturday night and put it in the oven while we were at church. I made it on Sat. night and put it in the refrigerator with a lid on it. The next morning, I put it in the oven and set the timer to come on. When we got home from church, we heard the smoke detector going off. Come to find out I had left the lid on the pan and it was a plastic lid. It was one tough lid! It had started to melt in one corner and was dripping in the bottom of the oven causing the smoke detector to go off. The meal didn't taste that bad :)
Oh my, what a story...I could totally imagine how devastating it was as a new bride! It looks beautiful NOW. :)
That is funny. =) I hate when I've tried to do something to "impress" Chad and it just doesn't work...sigh. LOL
I tried to make a pumpkin soup and although I followed a recipe, it turned out awful. Not sure what was wrong but I put it in bowls and he took a few bites before I tasted mine and it was just yucky. I asked him if he really liked it and he said no it was disgusting. I had to laugh b/c he was still trying to eat it but we both knew that was a complete failure! I have not even tried to make it again it was that gross.
